You play on PlayStation or Xbox and want to invest in serious sim racing hardware? Console compatibility is a minefield — and mistakes are expensive. This guide tells you exactly what works, what doesn't, and why.
First things first: Make sure you understand how wheel base and steering wheel compatibility works — Quick Release systems and ecosystems matter even before you think about console licensing.
Why Console Compatibility Is Complicated
On PC, everything works with everything. Any base, any wheel, any pedals — if it plugs in via USB, it works.
On console, it's a completely different story. Sony and Microsoft require specific licenses for hardware to be recognized. These licenses:
- •Cost manufacturers significant money
- •Require an authentication chip built into the hardware
- •Are specific to each console (PS4 ≠ PS5 ≠ Xbox)
Golden rule: On console, all peripherals must be from the same ecosystem. You can't mix a Fanatec base with a MOZA wheel on PS5 — even if both are individually PlayStation-compatible.
Exception: USB pedals (e.g., Fanatec CSP V3 in USB mode, Heusinkveld) can sometimes work independently on PC — but on console, pedals must connect through the base.
How Console Licensing Works
PlayStation (PS4 / PS5)
The PlayStation license lives in the base. If your base is "PlayStation compatible," then all wheels from the same brand will work on PS4/PS5 through that base.
PlayStation-compatible bases:
| Brand | Model | PS4 | PS5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fanatec | Gran Turismo DD Pro | ✅ | ✅ |
| Fanatec | Gran Turismo DD Extreme (EOL — limited stock) | ✅ | ✅ |
| Thrustmaster | T598 | ✅ | ✅ |
| Thrustmaster | T300 RS | ✅ | ✅ (officially supported) |
| Thrustmaster | T248 PS | ✅ | ✅ |
| Thrustmaster | T150 | ✅ | ✅ (backwards compat — limited FFB in some titles) |
| Logitech | G29 / G923 PS | ✅ | ✅ |
| Logitech | PRO DD11 PS/PC | ✅ | ✅ |
| Logitech | RS50 PS/PC | ✅ | ✅ |
Important
The Fanatec "Gran Turismo" bases are the only Fanatec bases with PlayStation support. The ClubSport DD, standard CSL DD, and Podium DD are NOT PS-compatible.
Xbox (Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S)
Xbox compatibility has a unique quirk with Fanatec: the license is in the wheel, not the base.
For all other brands, the license is in the base (same as PlayStation).
Xbox-compatible bases:
| Brand | Model | Xbox One | Xbox Series |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thrustmaster | TS-XW | ✅ | ✅ |
| Thrustmaster | TX | ✅ | ✅ |
| Thrustmaster | T248 Xbox | ✅ | ✅ |
| Logitech | G920 / G923 Xbox | ✅ | ✅ |
| Logitech | PRO DD11 PC (via Xbox Wireless) | ❌ | ✅ |
| Logitech | RS50 PC | ❌ | ✅ |
The Special Fanatec + Xbox Case
With Fanatec, any base works on Xbox — as long as you're using a wheel with a built-in Xbox license. Fanatec is the only manufacturer that works this way.
Fanatec Xbox-licensed wheels:
The CSL DD, ClubSport DD, ClubSport DD+ — any Fanatec base becomes Xbox-compatible the moment you mount an "for Xbox" wheel.
Fanatec pro tip: To play on both Xbox and PS5, you need a GT DD Pro base (PS license built in) + a "for Xbox" wheel. This combo works on both consoles.

Console Adapters: Are They Worth It?
Third-party adapters like the Drivehub and Titan Two promise to make any peripheral work with any console. Here's the reality:
- •Force feedback may be reduced depending on the base (premium bases like Fanatec DD retain most FFB via Drivehub; cheaper bases lose more)
- •Added latency (a few ms, but noticeable in competitive play)
- •Ban risk in some online games (anti-cheat detection)
- •Console updates that regularly break compatibility
Our recommendation: If you primarily play on console, buy natively compatible hardware. Adapters are a last resort, not a long-term solution.
